MAR.26.08
Gardening at Night. In the spirit of Fritz Haeg's Edible Estate projects, I planted a little garden in my apartment complex.
After a while, I was joined by my neighbor Carlos and his son. He got the light that made it possible to work after sundown.
Carlos and I continued the next day...

MAR.14.08 In conjunction with the Anytime, Anywhere conference, I took part in the tour “Touring Olympia - Exposition Park” by Temporary Travel Office. Ryan Griffis and Sarah Ross led an informative and whimsical tour of Los Angeles Olympics sites at Exposition Park, set in a fictional near future of 2030.

JAN.28.08 Inlandia Exhibition opens at Wignall Museum. The exhibition, which runs until March 1, includes a new project of mine: a video installation named "Sign People II." It is a continuation of a project that started as a photo documentary a few years ago. Again, I took to the streets to document and interview people that twirl signs by the side of the road.

The Wignall Museum is located at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga. More info here...

OCT.5.07 Beautiful sign on the way to the apple orchards of Oak Glen.

SEP.21.07 A walk in my neighborhood yielded two discoveries today: I witnessed a Park(ing) Day intervention at the Los Angeles Eco-Village.
I've been admiring the Park(ing) Day project (started by collaborative group Rebar in San Francisco) for a while, also mentioning it in my book Reclaim+Recover. It was great to be able to see these temporary gardens pop up in Los Angeles for one day. I had never heard of the Eco-Village before. It's exciting to have this community, which seeks more cooperative and ecological living patterns, right around the corner. [-] [+]

SEP.14.07 Recently, I spent two days working with Barry McGee on a zine for his new exhibition at Redcat, which opened tonight.
I set up shop with laptop and scanner in the gallery, while Barry was excitedly hopping back and forth grabbing this and that to be included in the zine. A fun way of working!

SEP.13.07 Evelyn Serrano invited me to participate in the "Town Hall Meeting" as part of The Other Project, for which I also designed the poster.
This event brought together officials from the City of Santa Clarita and CalArts to converse about furthering the connections between the Institute and its immediate communities. I started out the discussion with a presentation about the Re:Valencia project that had confronted similar questions about a year ago.

MAY.29.07 A visit to Portland, Oregon, made it possible to swing by a few Intersection Repair projects (which I also included in my book Reclaim+Recover).
Intersection Repair, an initiative from the City Repair Project, encourages and enables neighbors to transform anonymous street intersections into thriving public spaces.
